World Congress of Optometry 2017

The second World Congress of Optometry began in Hyderabad on September 11, 2017.
It is organised to discuss new ideas and share research and knowledge about various facets of optometry.

Key Highlights

  • Over 1,200 delegates comprising optometrists, researchers, educators, students and health professionals from around the world are attending the three-day event.
  • The Congress was inaugurated by State Health Minister C. Laxma Reddy
  • It is organised in partnership with Asia Pacific Council of Optometry and the India Vision Institute.
  • The conference theme is “Accessible, quality vision and eye health”, which ties into the WHO’s ‘Universal eye health: A global action plan 2014-2019’ which aims to reduce the prevalence of avoidable visual impairment by 25 per cent by 2019.
  • Professor Kovin Naidoo, CEO of the Brien Holden Vision Institute, South Africa, is the chair of the conference.

What is Optometry?

Optometry involves examining the eyes and applicable visual systems for defects or abnormalities as well as the medical diagnosis and management of eye disease.
