6th International Tourism Mart: 2017 begins in Guwahati

The 6th edition of International Tourism Mart 2017 was inaugurated in Guwahati by the Governor of Assam Shri Jagdish Mukhi.
  • Assam is a land with abundant natural treasures and this event is an opportunity to highlight the cultural and heritage resources of the state. 
  • During the event, many handicraft and handloom products will be exhibited at the various stall that will showcase the cultural diversity and craftsmanship of the people of Assam.
  • This is a golden opportunity for the buyers and sellers to reach out to the global markets with their products as many foreign delegates from countries like Australia, Bhutan, China, Cambodia, Cyprus, Fiji, Germany, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, Philippines, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Tanzania, Thailand, USA, UK, have gathered to attend the event.
  • This mart will aim at attracting more tourism to the state because it has beautiful flora and fauna, traditional lifestyle as well as art and craft products to offer to the tourists.
  • Along with the participation of the residence of the North-east states, the government is also willing to offer the foreign delegate a glimpse of rich cultural heritage that their states possess and thus presentations will be organised to showcase the tourism products and places.
  • This mart is a chance for the buyers and sellers to collaborate with each other and consequently helping and growing as a global platform for their products.
  • The event will also highlight the  ‘New Tourism Policy’ of Assam which will facilitate the tourists and other stakeholders. New Tourism Policy of Assam aims at doubling the tourist inflow to the state.
  • India’s “Act East Policy" has helped the country to blossom its ties with Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the larger East Asia region

What is Act East Policy?

  • Act East Policy is directed to establish friendly relations with the countries in Asia-Pacific Region. 
  • Initially, this policy had an economic point of view but gradually it gained political, strategic and cultural dimensions.
  • With the help of this policy, India has improved its relationships with  Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Japan, Republic of Korea
  •  Act East Policy focusses on India-ASEAN cooperation for improving infrastructure, manufacturing, trade, skills, urban renewal, smart cities, Make in India and other initiatives.
