India’s second FTII to be set up in Arunachal Pradesh

  • FTII will be set up by the Union Government in Arunachal Pradesh so as to boost the potential of the North Eastern region.
  • The first FTII was set up in Pune which is an autonomous institute operating under the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
  • Minister of State (I/C) of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region Jitendra Singh said that only two film shootings had taken place in Arunachal Pradesh in the last few decades as the State lacks in requisite infrastructure for film shootings.
  • He further mentioned that the South Indian film industry could take the lead in giving a fillip to the FTII by shooting films in Arunachal Pradesh.
  • This announcement was made during a Conference “Indian Entertainment Industry: Global Leader in Making” organized by Bharat Niti and South India Film Chamber of Commerce.
  • FTII (Film and Television Institute of India)
  • The Film and Television Institute of India is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Government of India. It is aided by the Central Government of India. It was established in 1960 and it started its courses in 1961. It is situated on the premises of the Prabhat Film Company in Pune. Anupam Kher is the current Chairman of FTII.
  • FTII is a member of the CILECT (International Liaison Centre of Schools of Cinema and Television, an organization of the world’s leading schools of films and television. The FTII is registered under the Societies’ Registration Act of 1860. The society is headed by a President who functions as the Chairman of the Governing Council, the Academic Council and the Standing Finance Committee.
