Abhay has taken charge as the new chief of the NCB (Narcotics Control Bureau).

  • Abhay is a 1986 batch IPS officer of Odisha cadre who was appointed as the new DG (Director General) at the NCB headquarters in New Delhi.
  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, headed by the Prime Minister has approved his appointment to the post of NCB DG till 18th November 2019.
  • In April 2017, incumbent R R Bhatnagar was appointed as the CRPF DG and since then the post of the NCB DG was lying vacant.
  • Special Secretary in the home ministry Rina Mitra was handling the additional charge of the NCB DG since then.
  • Abhay was till now working as Additional DG (Training) in the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force).

What is NCB?

The Narcotics Control Bureau is the apex coordinating and law enforcement agency in India responsible for fighting drug trafficking and abuse of illegal substances.
The Government of India constituted the Narcotics Control Bureau on 17th March 1986.
It functions as an enforcement agency through its zones and sub-zones which collect and analyse data related to seizures of narcotic drugs, study the trends and work in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies. It has its headquarters in New Delhi. It works under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
