Two-day APEC Summit Concluded in Vietnam

 Vietnam hosted the  Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings at InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort in Đà Nẵng.'

  • The main theme of the summit was Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a Shared Future
  • The summit was attended by the leaders of 21 Pacific Rim countries attended this meeting.
  • Vietnam hosted the APEC summit. The previous summit was hosted by Vietnam in 2006.
  •  The APEC summit for 2018 will be held in Papua New Guinea
  • The summit focused on collaborative activity, s the such as provision of support for small businesses, promoting sustainable growth and deepening economic integration. US and China, two economic powers in the region held opposing views on deepening economic integration.

  • These economies promote free trade throughout the Asia-Pacific region. 
  • APEC was established in 1989 for growing interdependence of Asia-Pacific economies and the advent of regional trade blocs in other parts of the world
  • The annual APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting is attended by the heads of government of all APEC members except Republic of China (Taiwan) (which is represented by a ministerial-level official under the name Chinese Taipei as economic leader)
