Assam Spring Festival organised at Manas National Park

Assam Spring Festival was organised in Manas National Park to promote the local food and culture. During the two-day long festival, the visitors experienced the mesmerizing local food, music handloom and handcraft.

The festival was organised by Indian Weavers' Association and the Swankar Mithinga Onsai Afat, an association of reformed poachers in Manas who are now engaged in wildlife conservation and preservation.

Highlights of the event


  • About 32 households were trained for the maintenance of hygiene and the basics of the service industry. They managed home stays and serving the guest homemade food.
  • With this initiative, the residents got a chance to provide the guests a stay at their homes and showcase and sell their products. 
  • The itinerary of the festival includes village tours, exposition of local handicraft and handloom, cultural showa, local folk music and tasting of local cuisines and delicacies.

Manas National Park

Manas National Park or Manas Wildlife Sanctuary is  UNESCO Natural World Heritage site, a Project Tiger reserve, an elephant reserve and a biosphere reserve in Assam, India. The park is known for its rare and endangered endemic wildlife such as the Assam roofed turtle, hispid hare, golden langur and pygmy hog. Manas is famous for its population of the wild water buffalo.
