  • The mission took place exactly 50 years after two U.S. astronauts stepped on the Moon
  • This is an Indian mission to touch the Moon’s lunar side the South Pole
  • No space agency has landed on the south pole of the Moon yet
  • The Mission will give a better understanding of the evolution and origin of the Moon through topographical studies, analyses of minerals etc.
  • The orbit of Chandrayaan-2 will make a circularized 100x100 km orbit
  • The lander Vikram will land on the South Pole on 6th September 2019
  • The Rover will carry out an experiment on the surface for a period of 1 Lunar day which is equal to 14 Earth days

  • The mission consists of 3 modules- Orbiter, Lander (Vikram) and Rover (Pragyan)
  • Chandayaan-2 is an indigenously developed mission of ISRO and with its success, India will become the 4th country in the world to successfully land on the Moon after U.S., Russia and China
