Current context: IPS officer Chhaya Sharma (India) has been chosen for the 2019 Asia Society Game Changers award.

  • She has been nominated for the award for her investigation and prosecution of the Delhi gang-rape case and other high-profile crimes in India.
  • As the then south Delhi Deputy Police Commissioner, she responded immediately at a call in the wee hours of 16th December 2012.
  • For the first time since the launch of the award in 2014, this year all the awardees are women.
  • 6 other female awardees of the 2019 Asia Society Game Changers award are:
    1. Japan's Yuriko Koike, the first female governor of Tokyo
    2. China's Jane Jie Sun, the leader of Ctrip, in China,
    3. Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi from UAE, a pioneer in the art
    4. Sana Mir, from the field of sports

    6. Kung Fu Nuns, a group of Buddhist nuns from India and Nepal, known for their social activism and humanitarian work
  • Asia Society is an educational organization dedicated to strengthening partnerships and mutual understanding among the institutions and people of Asia and the United States.
  • The award honours people who make a positive contribution to the future of Asia.
